Description
Here is something quite something quite rare, a piece of early American porcelain, a small Serving plate or platter from The Potter’s Co-operative Co. of East Liverpool, Ohio. Delicate muted colors of pink, yellow and blue-green decorate the hand painted flowers.
The Potter’s Co-operative opened in 1882 when several local potteries purchased the Dresden Pottery Works. The Potter’s Co-operative made ironstone toilet sets, dinnerware, tea sets, sanitary ware and vitreous hotel china. The cooperative worked until 1925, when a new corporation, Dresden Pottery Co., purchased the Dresden Pottery Works. On the banner are the words, “Dieu et Mon Droit,” which means “God and my right,” a phrase that appears on the British Royal Coat of Arms.
The mark on was used on the cooperative’s ironstone table and toilet wares from 1882 until about 1895.
This plate measures 10.75″ by 8.25″. It is in fair vintage condition has some nicks and chips on the underside of the plate, not sure if these were done before firing or not. There is a chip on the underside lip. Normally I would drop this off at goodwill but this is such an early piece of American porcelain it deserves to go to good home. Please look at the photos closely.
