Description

This wonderful Nancy doll, titled A Dillar-A Dollar, A Ten O’clock Scholar, was produced sometime between 1942 and 1948. We know this because this doll has “frozen” legs which weren’t produced until 1942 (meaning the doll can’t sit down as the logs are attached to the torso with no joints). Also, in 1948 they began making the dolls in plastic and this doll is bisque so it is before that time. This doll has the signature white pantaloons. She has black painted shoes and a hand painted face. The hair is attached to her head. She still has her hat, but no safety pin, booklet or wristlet. The elastic between the two arms needs to be repaired and this doll will be in good shape. The box is in very good condition considering its age with no writing or tears.

Nancy dolls began when Nancy Ann Abbott had a dream of her own. With only a small investment, she wanted to bring hope and fun to the lives of American girls by creating her first doll, the Hush-a-Bye doll, in 1937. She even opened a factory in Berkeley, California, to produce the parts for the dolls, a first in the US. Their popularity continued, but the most valuable dolls are the early ones with the bisque bodies in their original boxes with the original booklet and wrist or hand tag. This is a great doll to collect because there are many affordable dolls due to the volume that were made after those first few original years.
