These aurora borealis earrings are beautiful! The aurora borealis stones are set in metal and have screw backs as was classic in costume jewelry of this era. They measure approximately 1-1/8″ tall by 3/4″ wide. They are in great condition with some minor wear to the back as you can see in the photos.
What is aurora borealis? Aurora borealis stones are coated with thin layers of metal to enhance brilliance and reflective color quality. The method used in coating the stone involves vaporizing metals in a vacuum. This method was first developed by Swarovski Crystals in 1955. Of course, then it was copied by other jewelry manufacturers.
