Description
Here is the finest set of teacups I have ever seen, an extremely rare 12PC presentation set of Old Imari Solid Gold Band Coffee Cup And Saucer from Royal Crown Derby. This pattern is one of the rarest and most expensive that Royal Crown Derby produces, one of England’s finest Bone China manufactures. Presentation sets like this in a hard case and Royal Crown Derby logo on the inside of the case are extremely rare, let alone with this pattern. I have not found another one like it.
This came from the estate Of Joseph Jacob “Joe” Foss. He Was The Leading Fighter Ace Of The United States Marine Corps During World War II And A 1943 Recipient Of The Medal Of Honor and first commissioner of the AFL. He was also governor of South Dakota.
Background information courtesy of the Royal Crown Derby Museum: Imari is the name of the Japanese seaport through which passed the richly decorated wares produced by potters in the nearby district of Arita. So jealously and closely guarded by the potters was the secret of porcelain manufacture, and the many processes involved in the decoration of these lustrous wares that merchants were not allowed to visit Arita but were instead forced to trade at nearby Imari. Hence ‘Imari’ became the collective name for the many variations of this stylized form of decoration.
It is beautifully decorated and hand painted finishes with red, blue and gold, all of it hand applied. It is delicate porcelain of the highest order.
Quite stunning and just imagine having this on prominent display and then using this on a special occasion for your guests.
The mark dates this piece to being manufactured in the 1950s.
The cups measures 2.25″ in diameter, 3.25″ with the handle and 2.5″ high.
The saucers measures just under 4.5″ in diameter.
They are in superb mint condition with no chips or cracks, the gold trim look very good with no sign of wear like these were never used. Please look at the photos closely as they are part of the description.
Perfect to add to any collection or a gift to the tea or coffee lover.
