here is a beautiful blue on white Wedgwood transferware plate commemorating the home of William McKinley. Framed in a border of flowering roses and leaves, the central image is that of the McKinley home, with an inset cameo image of McKinley on the left.
Imported by Jones, McDuffee & Stratton Co. shortly after the death of President McKinley in September 1901, an excerpt from McKinley’s last speech, given in Buffalo, NY on September 5, 1901, is displayed on the reverse: ‘Let us ever remember that our interest is in accord, not conflict; and that our real eminence rests in the victories of peace not those of war.’
Measures 9-1/4 inch in diameter. Marked with both the Wedgwood (Etruria, England) and importer’s backstamp, with blind (pressed) Wedgwood name and dating codes. In excellent condition, with no nicks, chips, or cracks, and only a hint of plate hanger roughness at the rim.
